My name is Thiet Hoang, a seminarian of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. I am currently in my second year of Theology at Mundelein Seminary. This Spring semester, I will be staying in Calmar for my internship under the guidance of Fr. Huber. I am so excited to be at your parishes to learn more about the parish environment and to practice the ministries as a seminarian.
Originally from Vietnam, I come from a Catholic family and am the fourth of six children. After completing high school, I pursued a degree at the University of Danang and worked for two years before deciding to enter the seminary. Since arriving in the US in August 2018, I completed the English program at Divine Word College in Epworth, studied philosophy at Loras College, and am now in my second year at Mundelein Seminary. My journey towards priesthood began at the age of 11, when I was attending my uncle’s ordination mass. The beauty of the mass and the image of the priest left a lasting impression on me, sparking in me the idea of becoming a priest. As I grew older, I actively engaged in activities such as altar serving, choir participation, and church assistance to deepen my understanding of priesthood. My life’s motivation revolves around finding joy in loving God and learning to know and serve God through others. I believe the priesthood is my path to being close to God and others.
My intention for this internship is to learn how to serve others as Jesus’ disciples. I’m grateful to be part of your parishes which allows me to learn and apply my ministry skills. Please give me a chance to know you more, and to learn from you through our encounters.
